I have a couple of OCs with histories dating back to FOREVER so I thought it’d be fun to write a couple posts about them. Here’s one I recently redesigned on a whim! His name is Suffer and he’s a cleric who summons demons.

 He was for a flash project I was making when I was 18-ish called Sorrowsong, which was a fantasy story.  I didn’t ever get around to even beginning to make it because I had too much work to do (all the animations and art was too big of a workload).

He was a special type of fighting cleric that was trained in the use of rapiers. If you ever played Soul Calibur you’d recognize this move, haha…

Most of him got scrapped though other than keeping his cleric status and some of his backstory. He’s a totally different person now!

For starters he’s 12 now instead of 21. Why? …Cause. I wanted to… …. okay but for real he was supposed to get unrequited love for the main character but that idea felt shitty so if I made him both underage AND more than a decade younger than her then I wouldn’t have to shoehorn in crappy pseudo-romance. GENIUS.

And uh, he’s really bold now and pretty carefree. Before he was really generic nice… it’s hard to say he even HAD a personality. His personality was “oh he’s mysterious” which…isn’t a personality. It’s a good change because I tend to make my glasses characters shy, nerdy and withdrawn, this may be my only glasses character whos outspoken and unafraid.

Lastly about the summoning demons part… I’m not really sure what made me want to do it, but I guess I thought it would be cool. I thought using a rapier for him was cool but since I didn’t wanna do that anymore I just traded said cool factor for summoning demons, which has had an adverse effect on his lifespan so he’s going to die within..like..a year of the story’s beginning. YAY!

I’m still kinda messing around with his colour palette but I definitely want to keep the green from his old design. Colours are hard…

His spiral eyes don’t have a purpose other than to make him look weird and also fuck it I’m a weeb. he’s not very well liked among the kingdom because he’s just an odd kid in general so I thought it’d make him look more like an outsider.
